about

These songs were written on an old purple couch and recorded directly from my amp to a four track in the winter of 2013.

Notes on the title liquids:
Coconut Water - The clear liquid inside young coconuts. It has a high potassium and mineral content.

Hot-Melt - Used in a hot glue gun. Commonly supplied in solid cylindrical sticks.

Rubber Cement - Drying adhesive. Made from elastic polymers mixed in a solvent. Used in art projects.

Iron Oxide Slurry - Made from water, iron oxide pigments, and a dispersing agent. Minimizes sludge build-up and allows heat dissipation.

Toluene - A clear, water-insoluble liquid that smells like paint thinner. Used as industrial feedstock and as a solvent. Sometimes used as an inhalant drug. Toluene has been used to remove cocaine from coca leaves to make Coca-Cola syrup.

Aqueous Ammonia - A solution of ammonia in water. Used to stain wood and as an antimicrobial in fast food beef.

Brine - A solution of salt in water. Used to preserve vegetables, fruit, fish, and meat.

Morpholine - A common additive for pH adjustment in fossil fuel and nuclear power plant stream systems.

Methyl Ethyl Ketone - A colorless liquid with a sharp, sweet odor reminiscent of butterscotch and acetone. Used in connecting together parts of scale model kits and in dry erase markers.

Cherry Coke - Cherry flavored Coca-Cola introduced in 1985. Informally known as chola.

Mercury - The only liquid metal at standard temperature. Extremely toxic.

Black Liquor - The spent cooking liquor from the kraft process when digesting pulpwood into proper pulp. Used as an energy source in pulp mills.

Xylene - An aromatic hydrocarbon found in gasoline and airplane fuels. Slighty greasy and colourless.

Propylene Glycol - A colourless, nearly odorless, clear, viscous liquid with a faintly sweet taste. Used as a chemical feedstock in polyester resin production. Used as an aircraft de-icing fluid.

Baijiu - Chinese distilled white liquor made from sorghum or rice.

Molasses - Viscous by-product of the refining of sugarcane, grapes, and sugar beets into sugar.

about

Arctic Skies Brattleboro, Vermont

Arctic Skies is the solo recording project of Jeremy Paquette. It started in August 2002 with a goal of writing and recording a complete album in a month and here I am 20+ years later, still creating albums based on random, self-imposed rules.
